[edit] Origin and Key Partnerships

The City Disputes Panel was founded in 1994 with the support of the Bank of England, the City of London Corporation, the CBI, the Financial Services Authority and Lloyd’s of London.

The CDP’s distinguished panels of judicial, financial sector and field specific expertise are now supplemented by the many specialist practitioners within the international membership of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a registered charity that acts as a global professional standards body.

CDP continues to provide traditional excellence as a specialist in large or complicated disputes and as a source of advice and expertise to the City. It is a key resource for City businesses and practitioners, who can obtain impartial advice on conflict management and dispute resolution and explore innovative, cost effective solutions that provide alternatives to conventional referral to the courts.

[edit] Services

CDP’s key objective is to ensure that businesses are able to:

  • preserve their commercial relationships;
  • keep costs within budget constraints;
  • focus time and resources on their core business activities
  • protect their corporate image and reputation.

It is increasingly recognised that public disagreement is damaging to businesses. Alternative means of resolving disputes are a cost effective investment by helping corporates and other organisations to maintain brand reputation and to preserve commercially sensitive information.

The Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) services offered by the City Disputes Panel are based on maintaining and delivering its core values of independence, integrity and impartiality.

CDP provides flexible, cost-effective and timely solutions using proven ADR techniques including mediation, conciliation, neutral evaluation, expert determination and arbitration which may be used separately or as part of a flexible, tailored approach in response to the specific requirements.

[edit] Multiple and multi-party Disputes

The CDP pioneered the use of ADR techniques in resolving multiple and multi-party claims and CDP has in place a well-established approach together with best practice guidelines for the management of such schemes. CDP offers a substantial level of experience, and the required resources, to ensure that a unique situation is managed efficiently, with the minimum of disruption, in what might otherwise be a lengthy, complex, damaging and expensive public litigation process through the court system.

[edit] Professional Bodies and Trade Associations

As a neutral organisation, with unparalleled access to independent and highly experienced practitioners worldwide, the CDP has a track record in providing a comprehensive and flexible service to professional organisations, trade associations and regulatory & supervisory bodies faced with the administration of determination processes, particularly those that operate through voluntary codes. CDP’s specialist outsource services enhance the impartiality and integrity of the processes and free managers from time-consuming administration, leaving them to concentrate on their core business.
