The Colorado Council of Mediators and Mediation Organizations is dedicated to providing leadership and support to the mediation profession, and information to the public.

CCMO's mission is:

  • To promote the development and excellence of the mediation profession.
  • To promote the use and understanding of mediation as a means of dispute resolution.
  • To provide skills, professional development and support for its members.
  • To provide leadership in the field of mediation.
  • To provide education and information to the public.

[edit] Standing Committees

[edit] Budget

To plan and execute CCMO yearly budget, make recommendations for use of money, budgeting and extra expenses or income to the Board. Revises budget as needed.

[edit] Executive

Comprised of Board Officers, it serves to consider proposals to the Board, provide recommendations as appropriate, and oversee the Administrative Coordinator's work and administrative decisions. It is also authorized to make emergency decisions on behalf of the Board when warranted.

[edit] Grievance

To ensure the ethical boundaries of the profession. This committee, brought together by the President as needed, provides a vehicle for the public or consumer to file a complaint and resolve conflicts with mediators who are members of CCMO.

[edit] Professional Mediator - Application Review

To review all applications for Professional Mediator, checking for required information, obtaining omitted information from the applicant, and forwarding approved applications.

[edit] Judicial

To promote mediation and mediation understanding among judicial members of the court, including developing relationships with judges and providing them with information concerning mediation and CCMO. They are designated to invite judges to attend CCMO events.

[edit] Leadership

To recruit potential candidates for the Board of Directors, prepare and send ballots, and count the results. Also includes preparing the applications for awards and convening the selection committee for award recipients. In coordination with Board and/or Professional Development Committee, arranges for an Annual Business Meeting.

[edit] Legislative

To monitor legislative matters and the legislature as they relate to mediation and to keep the Board and CCMO members informed and updated, encouraging or discouraging the Board to support or not support particular legislation when appropriate. May also include working on legislation when agreed to by the Board and CCMO membership.

To promote and develop the ongoing growth of membership in the organization. Includes coordination of "Opportunities in Mediation" events.

[edit] Professional Development

To act as an umbrella/oversight committee promoting skill developing, awareness and networking for members, providing technical and logistical assistance, coordinating an integrated approach to a year round CCMO curriculum and evaluating and assessing the quality of programming. Includes oversight of Attorney-Mediator Dialogue, Annual Fall Conference, and Member Skill Builders.

To promote the profession with the public and other professionals through networking, speaking brochures, directories, media contacts, advertising, etc. Includes coordinating the Speaker's Bureau and Mediation Month.

To provide support and education for mediators to successfully mediate across cultures; and to promote the use and understanding of mediation as a means of dispute resolution in all Colorado minority and underserved communities.

[edit] ADR Qualifications Task Force

Established to research and make proposals regarding the issue of professional qualifications. Having begun with mediation, the task force will move on to other areas of ADR.

[edit] State/Chapter Review

Established to look at issues surrounding the formation of CCMO chapters throughout Colorado and address the various questions, concerns, and ideas that have been raised about organizing at both the statewide and chapter level.

[edit] Public/Private Use of Mediation Task force

Established to initiate and oversee a productive study, dialogue and problem solving on the use of publicly sponsored/supported mediation and private mediator services.
