The Mediation Council of Western Pennsylvania serves the public by providing:

  • education about mediation
  • information about mediator qualifications
  • assistance in finding qualified mediators.

The Mediation Council also serves the professional mediator by providing:

  • opportunities for advanced mediation training
  • opportunities for continuing mediation education credit
  • standards of practice and code of ethics.

The Mediation Council is the only association of professional mediators in Western Pennsylvania. Its mission is to promote the use of mediation and other collaborative processes for resolving disputes and managing conflict, and support the professional development of mediation practitioners.

Here are some of the many disputes that can be mediated:

  • Business breakups and management issues
  • Employer-employee disputes
  • Modification and interpretation of contracts
  • Divorce, alimony, division of property
  • Breach of contract
  • Child custody and support
  • Neighborhood disputes
  • Disputes between estate heirs
  • Landlord-tenant disputes
  • Workplace discrimination issues

  • Individual: for the professional mediator. This category of membership includes discounts on Council-sponsored trainings and voting rights for Board elections.
  • Organizational: for mediation organizations. This category of membership includes discounts for Council-sponsored trainings and voting rights for Board elections for up to four members of the organization.
  • Affiliate: for volunteer mediators or mediation supporters. There are no voting rights with this category of membership.
  • Student: for full-time students only. There are no voting rights with this category of membership.

Annual dues, payable on a calendar basis, are as follows:

  • Individual: $60
  • Organization: $200
  • Affiliate: $25
  • Student: $10
