Since 1987, Mediation Services for Anoka County has been helping families, neighborhoods, schools, landlords, tenants and businesses manage and resolve conflict through education and conflict resolution services. Professionally trained volunteer mediators assist individuals and communities to successfully resolve problems and disputes on own using Alternative Dispute Resolution methods. Mediation Services for Anoka County strives to empower individuals and communities by providing a wide range of conflict resolution services and educational events.

Community Mediation

Free mediation program designed to help people with a variety of disputes and concerns in many areas.

For example:

  • Neighbors in dispute over property lines, barking dogs, wood piles, fences, music or kids.
  • Tenants and Landlords in dispute over repairs, parking, kids, pets, late rent or policies.
  • Businesses and Customers in dispute over services, product, policies or pricing.
  • Employers and Employees in dispute over attendance, telephone use, policies or benefits.
  • Employees in dispute with other Employees over parking, music, shared machinery, temperature of workspace or telephones.
  • Adult children still living at home.
  • Divisions of estate.
  • Elder care or nursing home placement
  • Family communication issues, sibling fighting, etc...
  • Parents and children fighting about chores, curfews, boundaries, disrespect.
  • Large group mediation including city labor/management issues, staff issues within departments or with other departments, board/staff issues, community groups or church disputes, city and neighbor issues.
  • Truancy issues.

Restorative Justice

A program of restorative mediation, available through referral, offered to adult offenders and victims of general crime. Offenders are eligible if they take responsibility for their actions in the crime, are willing to make appropriate apologies, and offer restitution. Victims have the opportunity to meet with the offender face-to-face, ask questions about what happened, relate how the crime affected them and ask for ways to repair the harm done.

An inexpensive program designed for parents who are divorced or never married which assists them in working out day-to-day details regarding their children:
