The palaver is an African practice that aims at resolving a dispute through discussion. Mediation and the palaver are commonly confused with each other.

[edit] Description

The palaver is led by a wise, with all respect that the parties must have. For example, concerning conflicts between spouses, it is by reasoning, spirit of reconciliation, or by exhaustion that either party yields, and obviously it is the one who has the least recognized rights.

The palaver is a conciliation system under the arbitration of a referent which is respected by both parties - the respect is sincere or by submission. The palaver facilitates the pacification of relations rather than the truth, the end of the conflict rather than fairness. The same goes for bamboo filled with seeds of rice in some Asian countries.
