Passive awareness is a concept that Jean-Louis Lascoux has created to describe the state of self-awareness without being able to act on what is the conscience object.

Passive awareness is associated with functional fatalism. It gathers what we call attitudes. We are aware of an emotional state, but we are unable to act on it to change it. It is the opposite of active awareness.
